GOING GHOST: Queen Tackle's Latest & Greatest 'Ghost Jighead'

|Michael Wood

It's not often you see really innovative things arise in the world of hooks and jigheads. But be assured, when they do, Queen Tackle is always at the forefront. And guess what, they've gone and done it again... introducing the all new Queen Tackle Ghost Jigheads.

Let's get you acquainted, shall we?

Let's answer the biggest question you probably have straight off the bat: isn't it just another jighead, what could possibly be so different about it?

Well look, there's levels to this. On the surface, it might just look like another regular ol' jighead, but there's something special going on here that the team at Queen Tackle have been working tirelessly to perfect. Quite frankly, we're stoked to say they're now finally ready to go!

Queen Tackle has been arguably the biggest innovators in the jighead space for years. They ushered in and popularised the use of tungsten instead of lead, a material change which has become essential in the scoping era we find ourselves in. Last year they brought out the brilliant and unique Rollin' Strollin' Jighead, the creation of Bassmaster Elite Pro KJ Queen, who through this design revolutionised and simplified rigging for hover strolling techniques and how anglers nationwide fish their minnow baits. Now, new for 2025, it's time they introduce their next best thing to give you the upper hand in your next high stakes tournament, or to add a new tool for your arsenal when those fussy fish are being easily spooked, don't want to commit to eating, and are threatening to ruin the vibes during your precious weekend session. Put things back in your favor with the Ghost Jighead.

TIME TO GO GHOST

Dalton Head designed this epic little deal. The two time Collegiate National Champ paid particularly close attention to something while he was on the water, and running up those leaderboards. That being, one of the biggest deterrents to those bag-altering Bass biting was the bright sunlight reflecting off the jighead.

Put it this way, if someone grabbed a sheet of metal and bounced the harsh midday sun's light straight into your eyes, the last thing you're thinking is 'let me find a delicious burger and fries to devour'. Rather, you're dropping what you're doing, shielding your eyes, and seeking your sunglasses immediately. It's the only thing you're thinking about. Who even thinks about food in that scenario? Last time I checked, Bass don't wear sunglasses, and who could blame them for not wanting to eat when that ray of overbearing light beams into their eyes. Is that the reason why you see Bass on your scope charge after your bait from miles ages away only to reject it once their nose is basically touching it? Dalton thinks so. So he and the Queen Tackle team put their heads together (no pun intended) and made the solution happen.

HOW THEY DID IT?

The difference is in the details. It begins with a material alteration and evolution. The Ghost Jighead features an oxidized 97% pure tungsten head. By applying an oxidized coating to the tungsten head:

  • Reducing Reflecting Light: The oxidizing process creates a darkened surface that now absorbs light instead of reflecting it.

  • Glare Reduction: By absorbing light, the oxidized head significantly reduces glare and eye strain for the Bass to stay locked into that juicy minnow they want to inhale.

  • Enhancing Clarity: less glare means more light is absorbed instead of bouncing back at any fish looking in the bait's direction, giving them a clearer view to more accurately hit your offering.

  • PAIRED WITH TUNGSTEN: By applying an oxidize coating to tungsten, angler's are still able to utilize tungsten's superiority in live sonar applications compared to  other material like lead. Angler's can now utilize a jighead that almost entirely reduces reflecting light, while still maximizing the return-reading on their sonar.

You might have noticed the importance of reducing reflected light and glare in other real world, high performance situations. Sunglasses often have matte black frames to absorb harsh light and prevent it reflecting into your eyes. Even your favorite NFL player probably credits using eye black paint/grease with helping reduce glare and improve their ability to focus and clearly see on the field under the bright lights or playing in daytime games. If it's something carefully considered to assist in achieving greatness by the likes of Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Saquon Barkley and JJ Watt just to name a few, it's fully worthwhile for tourney anglers and weekend warriors alike to be considering, not necessarily for their eyes, but the Bass! By absorbing the light hitting it, the Ghost Jighead blends into its environment and enables Bass to more clearly focus on your lure without distractions or deterrents from reflecting light turning them off committing to biting!

IF YOU THOUGHT IT STOPPED THERE, YOU'D BE WRONG!

It's not just the head that's received this anti-reflection treatment, Queen has also tackled the issue of your hook reflecting unwanted light. For the Ghost Jighead, Queen uses their proprietary forged hook that's super strong while maintaining a stealthy finesse light wire. Taking it one step further, they've applied a nano-based coating to reduce friction for improved hook penetration, and to minimise reflected light once again.

Another key feature is the dual offset bait keepers. This carefully considered design element holds tightly onto your perfectly straight-rigged plastic with no deformation of the bait. After the oxidized head and nano-based coated hook have done their job preventing that deterring reflecting light and helping to keep that Bass tracking the lure, the last thing you need is your plastic to be looking all janky to the fish up close. The keepers keep your minnow rigged perfectly straight after you took your time carefully threading it on the hook, even after a fish has done its best to blast it off kilter. This saves you precious time on the water by not having to re-rig after every bite (pair it up with our bait's proprietary plastic material to even better results in this regard!)

PROOF OF CONCEPT

So you know how we were talking about how Tom Brady used eye black paint during his playing days to reduce glare and improve performance just before, right? Well what about some examples a bit closer to home? Queen Tackle's KJ Queen and Dalton Head have been posting some pretty incredible achievements, and credit using the Ghost Jighead as playing a game changing role in doing so! KJ has utilized the Ghost Jigheads during his NFPL and Bassmaster Elite events this season en-route to his best professional year to date! Meanwhile, Dalton was capitalizing on his own creation to give him the edge he needed to win the ACA Collegiate National Championship this year!

So logically, the next question is: where and when can I get them?
